Bernardin de Saint-Pierre: the eye and deciphering the world

Saint-Pierre’s Études and Harmonies de la nature are poetic theology, on subjects inspired by the works of Plato and metaphysical speculations by Christian authors on the theme of universal participation. Saint-Pierre’s theme is that Nature instructs Man through the landscape; hence, the preponderant role of the eye in this theology.
