Incest “held in solitary confinement”

The reflection concerns the complex analytical issues and the transition from the real to the symbolic in a female patient who had been subjected to incest by his mother. The clinical work, which made it possible for the traumatic experiences and trans-generational incestuous transactions to emerge from secrecy, was based on a painting therapy which provided symbolization and structure.
