“Irrelevant” secrecy

On the basis of an essay describing apprehension about discovering one is the carrier of a genetic disease, the author explores the effects on the explanation with the unconscious of the possibility that one is not only afflicted oneself, but also the perpetuator of a destructive gene. It is interesting to consider what this investigation can bring to the work of analysis, for both the patient and analyst, in the transformation of our relationship to knowledge which is secret.
