From the end of time to the time of the end
Some thoughts on the birth of subjectivity
By François Martin-VallasEnglish
The author reports a clinical example of the occurrence of a mutative moment in transference, which leads him to describe three times of temporalities: the objective circular, the objective linear, and the subjective linear. Next, he focuses upon a modality of transition between objective and subjective temporalities, prompted by a surprise occurring at a certain point, an effect of the kairos. The original approach suggested by Jean Laplanche is helpful in understanding this transition, for it makes it possible to distinguish between objective and subjective temporalities. In conclusion, the author offers a model of the effects of psychic conflictualization of the various temporalities, based on chaos theory in modern physics.
