Thinking, despite everything, in the shoes of Sy Parrish
By Laurent Meyer
English
The film One Hour Photo tells the story of Sy Parrish, a conscientious suburban photo-lab employee who turns into a psychopathic vigilante, determined to punish an adulterous husband for betraying the ideal family whose life Sy has been following, through snapshots, for almost ten years. The film could be analyzed as a representation of Sy’s inner world, a world which is traumatized and split off. The equilibrium of this world is shattered, but a renewed trauma, associated with the violence of a conflict, might be the trigger which enables psychic growth to resume in a therapeutic framework with positive transference.
