With “La Ballade de l’Escargot” and “La Leçon de Choses”, the theme of reproduction in certain hermaphrodites is the question. All-in-one, or is another needed? In the case of the snail, there is some likelihood that hermaphroditism, with its cross-fertilization mode, is a direct adaptation to “the slow life”.
