ARTICLE WITHDRAWN: Indian Hopi Kachina dolls, at the crossroads

Hopi Indian cosmogony, the vision of surrealist artists, and Jungian theory are all comparable in the sense that they all assume a unity between dream time and waking time, between the inner and outer worlds, between imagination and reality. Elements of each pair comprise the two faces of the same single world. Kachinas drive the principles of Nature, in which the Hopis feel deeply integrated in their daily life. They connect humans to the worlds of spirits and gods, without whom the Hopi would be unable to exist. The dolls which embody the Kachinas thus lead us to an area where anthropology, art, and analytical psychology intersect.
