Beyond and below narcissism

The psychoanalytical concept of narcissism turns out to be central to the difference in theorization of the unconscious and incest between Freud and Jung. Development of the concept by post-Freudians and post-Jungians emphasizes intra-uterine experiences. Jung discusses a symbolic “passage through the mirror” in the matricial world of the archetype; the link between inside and outside; similarities to the concept of projective identification; the constitution of the inner object and the persona, and principally, of the fulfillment of oneself and the constitution of the self as the center of the personality.
