Is it possible to transform creatively the experience of a difficult illness such as cancer, an illness which evokes our worst nightmares and our most intense fears? The answer can be affirmative, if we will be able to catch the deep meaning of the oncologic disease and to understand its value as an individual and social resource. Referring to some jungian tools: dream analysis, active imagination, deep writing, the author shows, also through her own story of illness, how it is possible to approach the unconscious dimension of cancer, matching the request of transformation and renewal which are hidden in it. As far as we are able to build a conscious and active relationship with the deep aspects of cancer, then it is possible to become part of the body-mind’s self-healing processes, facilitating the personality’s inner drives to self-healing and renewal and transforming the experience into a resource.
