Gestation, Realization and Publication of the Red Book

This article presents the history – and the pre-history – of the creation of the Red Book by C.G. Jung. It explores in depth the successive stages of Jung’s journey that produced the Object that is Liber Novus. The author describes what became of this oeuvre after Jung’s sudden abandonment of it in 1928, during his life and then after his death in 1961. It ends with a description of the differences between Jung’s original Liber Novus and the Red Book published by W.W. Norton in 2009.
