Becoming a painter

Interview with Susan Bostrom-Wong
By Michael Bala
English

This is an interview with Susan Bostrom-Wong, who is both a painter and a Jungian analyst. Susan and I met twice in her studio surrounded by her paintings – both finished and in progress – to talk about the creative psyche in the making of art. I first met Susan when she was a member of the committee that admitted me to the San Francisco analytic training program. At the admission meeting, the first question asked came from Susan when she asked me about my own artistic expression as I disclosed I studied clowning. That germinal moment, two years before this interview, stirred a curiosity within me about creative in making art. This interview considers art-making as expressive communications to and from the Self.
