Mother Tongue - Bitter Tongue
By Brigitte Allain-Dupré
English
Quoting extensively from Aharon Appelfeld’s new novel The Man Who Never Stopped Sleeping, the author suggests a reverie on the theme of the permanence of the mother tongue. The permanence is questioned symmetrically, in relation to the violent uprooting to which a child adopted by international agencies is subjected. The question of narrativity as a vector for heredity is central to this subject.
