Early shamanism served a different purpose from that practiced in the modern world, insofar as ways of life have changed radically. But certain common points persist: for example, the urge to connect with the cosmos and Nature, in its most earthly and spiritual forms, thanks to altered states of consciousness brought about by chanting and drumming.
