The Institute for the Study of Complexity’s Social Psychoanalysis Clinic
An anticipatory experience
By Tereza EstarqueEnglish
The goal of this article is to present how a psychoanalysis clinic for the poor located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, operates. The clinic is sponsored by the Institute for the Study of Complexity. This is a pilot program for a non-utilitarian, friendly clinic offered as a source of inspiration for other groups. Supported by the donation paradigm, a strong anti-utilitarian, collective sentiment guides economic management at the clinic. In this type of organization, all of the tasks are accomplished on a volunteer basis, by therapists who donate part of their time, according to a volunteer strategy.
