Minerva and Bluebeard
The Bluebeard affair
By Carleen BinetEnglish
Starting with the analyst’s reflections on Bluebeard, we go on to observe the unfolding of the analysis of a woman blocked in a sadomasochistic relationship because she is bound by undifferentiated parental imagos. A circumambulatio around her dreams and memories, together with the containing security of the analytic framework, enable her to regress to archaic and mortiferous depths, which she had forbidden to herself with the preeminence of an arrogant thinking function. Amplification and active imagination provide the analysand with positive feminine figures she can rely upon as she reconnects with the path of her creativity and independence, and assumes her femininity.
