A singular tale
The Bluebeard affair
By Paul-Vincent GuillouEnglish
Bluebeard is a tale of uncommonly broad scope and rich inspiration. Very soon, posterity associated the Bluebeard figure with historical or even mythological characters. Bluebeard became an archetypal woman-killing figure, a myth in and of himself. Actually, none of these standard models are satisfactory. This surprising tale, with its ambiguous moral, has been adapted by many different artists, in literature, music, and film. It has elicited the interest of many researchers, who have yet to explore it completely.
