Dependence and addiction

At birth, the human being is dependent on his family, and cannot achieve independence without the help of this family. Recently, the development of the concept of addiction has enabled us to connect the functioning of dependent persons to disturbances in the separation/individuation process. This new understanding of the function of addictions in the psychic economy contributes to adapting care and defining new requirements for psychotherapeutic practice in the field of addiction.
