Dionysus or time regained
Dionysus is the symbol of progress on the journey towards individuation. After an extremely violent childhood, shaken by trauma and dissociation that send Dionysus literally to the borderline, he is educated in an exclusively feminine world that makes him bisexual at first. He renounces violence when he accepts the loving initiation of the Great Goddess, which heals him and differentiates his feminine and masculine sides, hitherto confused. Nevertheless, he remains capable of navigating all the underwater dimensions of hidden worlds, all the way to Hades. He cheers the terrestrial life of his faithful, through and around the Mediterranean. Finally, he becomes capable of having a successful wedding with Ariadne on the heights of eternal Olympus. Before, Dionysus was torn between opposites, but now he unifies all of the dimensions: the vertical, from the vault of the heavens to Hades, and the horizontal, from the sea and Hellenic lands. In his eternal present, Dionysus embodies the quality of the awakened one, in union with all of the opposites of his rich and wise nature, differentiated at last, under the protection and laws of the Great Goddess.
