On the brink of death

By Christine Dallot
English

The author explores Michel de M’Uzan’s elaboration concerning the psychological movements at the frontiers of death, notably the figure of the “paraphrenic twin.” This figure is considered with regard to her own clinical practice and its references to the motif of the double examined by Jung. The author questions what it is, in the heart of dying, that is related to the manifestation of the various facets of the archetype of the self. The dying experience appears to be an ultimate attempt to bring oneself into the world.
