Accelerating the individuation process: Medusa and Perseus Myth in wartime

WithUkrainianJungians (#WUJ) (May 2022-May 2024) aimed at supporting and accompanying Ukrainian colleagues as they suffer the horrors of the war. Started as a single event, it grew into multiple actions proposed by the international Jungian community and for the entire Ukrainian Jungian community. This article focuses on the Reading Groups (Autumn 2022) and the Webinar series (January 2023 to May 2024), as different kinds of relationships were made between Ukrainians and non-Ukrainians. A Jungian interpretation of this shared experience is proposed using as a map the myth of Medusa and Perseus. It proposes an analysis of the possible factors that may have contributed to the acceleration of the process of individuation among Ukrainian colleagues, and to the mobilization of the psyche for the volunteers involved in #WUJ: the state of war, the regular meetings with #WUJ members and the international Jungian community.
