The Dark Side of the Androgynous Person

Man’s accession to his status as a sexual being is bound to the sacrifice of a primordial unity where masculine and feminine are undifferentiated. To demonstrate the purpose of the archetypes as unconscious psychic organizers in the process whereby sexual identity is acquired, the author’s approach is to examine the respective positions of Freud and Jung on the role given to the incest taboo. The archetype of the androgynous is, on its dark side, a factor which differentiates and makes conscious this process.
