On a Foreign Closeness

Is it possible for us to examine something we sometimes take for granted: that is, that we think our culture, and even more so that of a foreign patient, according to a pre-established framework which sometimes hinders the creativity of the unconscious of both the patient and the analyst? Using a clinical vignette relating the first contacts with a foreign patient as an example, the author attempts to show how the unconscious products related to transference and counter-transference, which are manifest simply as difficulties with expression, can be a fertile source of material.
