What is Mythanalysis? Pierre Solié and Myths

The practice of mythanalysis instituted by Pierre Solié originated with Jung’s Metamorphoses of the Soul and J. Perry’s work in the United States. This is to say that it developed in the context of heavy pathologies: pre-psychotic or borderline states, and was first applied to them. Here, the preponderance of the myth resides not in its being a « crutch of meaning », but, instead, in the ability inherent in its dynamic and nature to guide the patient’s escape from the tyranny of All or Nothing, bringing him or her into a mediation area where a story can assert itself and images can appear, in their essential functions of order, and where a discourse which would tend to restore the use of speech can be uttered.
