The «analytical setting» is a concept elaborated by Freudian analysts to promote the transference neurosis. It being granted that, in the absence of a setting, no analysis may occur, the author, after having outlined the analyst Jung’s conception of the psyche, the relationship with the analysand, and the goal pursued by the analyst, attempts to see how the Jungian analytical setting can facilitate these goals. The setting is offered by the analyst and arranged by and for each analysand on the assumption that the analyst probes for the reasons prompting the choice of one ritual rather than another.
