Whether incest is pathological and acted out; symbolic, as in the transference relationship; or even archetypal, as in the ego’s direct relationship with figures of the objective psyche, it refers to a central motif of the Conjunction, and thus to a clinic of the Self. Three case studies are cited as illustrations of this approach, which is closely bound to the specificity of Jungian psychology, although it also incorporates elements of Freudian theory to form a set of “Russian dolls” in that it contains different degrees of symbolism and therefore different levels of interpretation.
