This article is presented as a reaction to a survey carried out in the United States on the theme of this issue of the Cahiers. Although the relationship to the unconscious is inevitably disturbing and even humiliating for the ego, it may also prove to be a source of amazingly happy surprises and unexpected yet insistent encounters. This relationship is the gateway to a world of presences with whom one can learn to become familiar. The author emphasizes that psychoanalytical thought is thereby forced to give up the comfort of orthodoxy to evolve and transform it self.
