Anxieties and ways of thinking
By Roland Schols
English
Following an illustration of the theory of the alpha function of Bion drawn from the tales of the Thousand and One Nights, the author observes that such a theory is based on a paranoid understanding of infantile anxieties. Other theories are structured around a schizoid account of these anxieties. These two types of understanding gave rise to two irreconcilable schools of thought, as demonstrated by the conflict between Freud and Jung.
