The big sister

By Mariette Mignet
English

A girl who is saddled with the role of the “Big Sister”, and assigned to help out or replace a mother overwhelmed by her tasks, she is thus expected to respond to the father's explicit or implicit demands, and finds herself in the heart of an especially incestuous family organization.  Deprived of a mother and father herself her intimacy with the parental couple and the task of caring for the younger children condition her to live “to fulfill others' needs.  The conflict between “me or the others”, and her subsequent awakening to awareness, are a path to possible transformation for a libido which was spawned by a pathological overflowing eros. Literature, myth, and art can help us elaborate this complex.
