Dangers of psychoanalytic understanding
By George Bright
English
Jung and the Jungian analysts have been criticized for giving too low a priority to the role of understanding in analysis. The author discusses Jung’s own statements on the dangers of understanding. He examines the clinical basis of Jung’s attitude, and points out the dilemma of circularity which this entails. He suggests that this circle can be broken if we introduce a truly Jungian epistemology in which the hallmark of truth is change. A clinical example of the above is provided.
