“When it is not disturbed...” Essay on regression

By Martine Sandor-Buthaud
English

Drawing on seminal texts by Freud, Jung, Ferenczi and Balint on the subject of regression, the article discusses theories and issues about when, how, and why regression is a useful tool. In analysis, the practice of regression implies transference : a journey made by two people, a difficult and hazardous exploration of death. The author discusses such themes as the death wish, regression back to the earliest relationship with the mother, the healing of early wounds, and the proper understanding of the concept of rebirth.
